What is Tahilan?

Tahilan is the Tagalog word for “beam,” a supporting structure for bridges and houses. It began as a study center of Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church, in 1965. In 1996, Tahilan reopened its doors as a residence for female high school and university students, thus the name Tahilan Residence and Study Center. Since its beginning, Tahilan has been a beacon of faith, education, and personal growth for countless women coming from various parts of the Philippines.

As a home, Tahilan makes constant effort on the part of everyone to make life
in the residence warm and comfortable. The regulations are specifically designed to maintain and foster a spirit of personal responsibility and of service to others. Aside from this, Tahilan is also distinguished as a place for those with the desire to pursue their university studies with seriousness and exemplary diligence.

The mission and activities of Tahilan are inspired by the teachings of St. Josemaría Escriva, founder of Opus Dei. His message was to strive for holiness in everyday life by fulfilling duties and doing ordinary work well with the love for God. Tahilan embodies this through its holistic formation and activities that integrate faith with daily life.

Creating a Home Together with Us

The Staff

The Staff, composed of professors in nearby universities and professionals, who supervise the organization of all social, academic, cultural, and spiritual activities. Together with the collaborative effort of the residents, they are determined to maintain cleanliness and order through a relationship of mutual trust and respect that Tahilan will be the family home that we envision it to be.

The Administration

The Administration is composed of competent professional women who work to ensure a caring family atmosphere is lived in the residence. They take care of the meals and other services such as cleaning and laundry. A number of these professionals are graduates of the schools under the Foundation for Professional Training Incorporated (FPTI), which offers a two-year work-study program that will prepare them for a career in the food and institutional service industries.
